What is Yoga? 

The word yoga means to yoke, bind or unite. Yoga is a series of techniques to integrate mind, body and spirit. Practice creates flexibility, balance, stamina, and overall wellbeing, and ultimately helps the individual become more aware of their true, deepest nature.


Is Yoga a Religion? 

No, yoga is not a religion. It is a philosophy that began in India thousands of years ago originally meant as a framework for spiritual growth and mastery of the mind-body connection. Because of its origination in India, yoga often incorporates other philosophies of Hinduism and Buddhism. However, whatever your religious/spiritual beliefs, yoga provides everyone a path to connect deeper with their own definition of spirit, if they choose.  


What if I’m not flexible? 

No worries! You are a perfect candidate for yoga. The need to be flexible before starting yoga is a misunderstanding. It’s a little like thinking you need to speak Greek before visiting Greece. Just come to a beginner class with an open mind and release your self-judgment. You will be surprised how yoga will improve your flexibility in addition to bringing newfound balance, strength and improved wellbeing to your life.  


Taking your First Class

We look forward to meeting you! If you are new to yoga, we recommend that you take one of our beginner classes, Wednesday evening or Saturday morning. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class to fill out a New Client form and meet the instructor. If you have any health or injury concerns please mention them to the instructor prior to class.  

Drop-in classes are $15. If you decide to purchase a discounted package or monthly membership that same day, this $15 will be applied to your purchase, and in turn the first class would be free.

What do I bring? 

We recommend wearing yoga pants, sweats, leggings or shorts and an athletic top or t-shirt that isn’t too baggy. Since your temperature may vary, you might want to bring a light jacket, sweater or blanket. There are no shoes allowed in the yoga room so we provide a cubby for coats and shoes outside the room. We have water available outside the studio but you might like to bring a water bottle into the class. All yoga mats and props are provided, however you can certainly bring your own if you have them. In summary, all you really need is an open mind and a bit of curiosity!


Studio Guidlines:

One you are a registered Mosaic Wellness client, you are welcome to either register for classes ahead of time online or just show up for a class. If you register online, as a courtesy, the instructor will set up a studio mat and props for you to reserve your space. 

Please do not forget to scan your key tag prior to class or ask reception or the instructor to log you in. Our teacher’s compensation depends upon it!  

We recommend that you refrain from eating a couple hours before class. If you need to eat, try to make it a light snack. If you have not digested your food prior to class, you might not be very comfortable in some positions. 

Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class to settle in. You are always welcome to browse our store, have a cup of tea, or just chill from your day before the class starts. 

Please avoid cologne or perfumes as some students may be sensitive to strong scents. At the same time, our instructors do occasionally use essential oils and provide a light head neck massage during savasana (relaxation) so please let the instructors know if you prefer to skip this part. 

Please leave cell phones out of the studio or turn them off. 

The studio of a place of calm, blissful energy. Please consider keeping conversations on the down-low and check your ego and judgment at the door, along with your shoes.  

Remember, yoga should be stable and comfortable.  While you should challenge yourself, know your boundaries and work within your space of resistance. Yoga is not about struggling through the practice. If you feel pain, you are either out of alignment or forcing your body to do something it’s not ready for.
